February 4, 2010) -- The Shanghai Engine
Center, a joint venture of Pratt & Whitney,
a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX),
and China Eastern Airlines, delivered its
first heavy overhauled CFM56(r) engine. The
new center has capacity to overhaul up to
300 engines annually and is one of the
largest CFM56 engine overhaul shops in Asia.
"It is exciting to deliver this first engine
and have it returned to service," said
Shanghai Engine Center General Manager Chan
Kwai Wan. "As we begin increasing volume in
the shop, we invite operators to visit our
overhaul center to see its advanced
capabilities and unrivaled facility
features."
The Shanghai Engine Center is the first
facility in China to be awarded Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED(r))
Platinum certification from the U.S. Green
Building Council. The center comprises
approximately 25,000 sq. meters (275,000 sq.
feet) and features a 10-meter test cell with
capability of testing engines up to 75,000
pounds of thrust. The center has an advanced
information technology infrastructure that
assists with materials, inventory, cost and
quality and scheduling.
