The EADS all-electric Cri-Cri made its official maiden flight on 2 September at Paris Le Bourget airport.

The four-engined aerobatic aircraft – jointly developed by EADS Innovation Works, Aero Composites Saintonge and the Green Cri-Cri Association – flew for 7min without a hiccup. “Take-off and climb were smooth, no vibrations could be felt, manoeuvrability was excellent and all systems performed well,” says EADS, adding that the aircraft will begin aerobatic manoeuvres after 5h of flight and 15 landings.

The single-seat Cri-Cri – based on the Colomban Cri-Cri homebuilt aircraft – uses composites to reduce weight and compensate for the extra mass of the lithium batteries.

It is powered by four brushless electric motors driving counter-rotating propellers. EADS says the Cri-Cri emits no carbon dioxide, will be able to cruise for 30min at 60kt (110km/h), perform 15min of aerobatics at speeds up to 135kt and climb at 980ft/mom (5.3m/s).

Airbus ผู้ผลิตเครื่องบินค่ายยุโรปได้เริ่มการผลิตชิ้นส่วนแรกของเครื่องบินใหม่แบบ A350 XWB เมื่อวันอังคารที่ผ่านมา เครื่องบินนี้เป็นเครื่องบินโดยสารลำตัวกว้างที่จะใช้ต่อกรกับ Boeing คู่แข่งฝั่งอเมริกาที่สร้าง B787 Dreamliner ไปก่อนหน้ามากแล้ว แถลงการณ์ของบริษัทกล่าวว่าคนงานได้เริ่มในการประกอบส่วนของปีกขนาดใหญ่ในโรงงานของแอร์บัสที่ีเมือง Stade ใกล้กับเมือง  Hamburg ในเยอรมัน งานนี้เริ่มขึ้นหลังไม่กี่วันจากที่บริษัทแถลงข่าวว่าโครงการเครื่องบินนี้อาจจะล่าช้า

“เครื่องบินแบบ A350 XWD จะสร้างมาตราฐานใหม่สำหรับอุตสาหกรรมการบิน และผู้โดยสาร การใช้วัสดุขั้นสูงจะทำให้เครื่องบินแอร์บัสใหม่ประหยัดคุ้มค่าสูงสุด และเป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อมเมื่อเทียบกับเครื่องบินในคลาสเดียวกัน” กล่าวโดย Tom Enders ประธานเจ้าหน้าที่บริหารของบริษัทแอร์บัส

แอร์บัสให้ข่าวว่าตอนนี้มียอดสั่งจอง A350 XWD แล้ว 528 ลำ และการเริ่มต้นประกอบชิ้นส่วนเครื่องบินจะทำในโรงงานหลายโรงงานในยุโรปในปี 2011 โดยการส่งมอบเครื่องบินลำแรกให้กับสายการบิน Quatar Airways ในปี 2013

สัปดาห์ที่แล้วหนังสือพิมพ์ French financial daily Les Echos อ้างถึงรายงานการวิจัยตลาด รายงานว่าเครื่องบินแบบ A350 อาจจะมีความล่าช้าไปจนถึงอย่างน้อยปี 2014 แต่ทางบริษัทแอร์บัสยืนยันว่าจะเสร็จตามกำหนดที่วางไว้

Boeing ได้นำหน้าคู่แข่งฝั่งยุโรป เมื่อปี 2004 ได้เคยประกาศว่า B787 Dreamliner จะเสร็จพร้อมส่งมอบในปี 2008 แต่ปัจจุบันโครงการมีความล่าช้ากว่ากำหนดไปกว่า 2 ปี และยังคาดว่าเครื่องบินรุ่นขนาด 330 ที่นั่งนี้จะยังไม่สามารถส่งมอบได้ก่อนปีหน้า

ทั้ง A350 และ B787 เป็นเครื่องบินสำหรับการบินระยะทางไกล ที่สร้างด้วยวัสดุผสมสมัยใหม่ อาทิเช่น carbon fibre glass ที่ช่วยลดนำ้หนักและลดแรงต้าน ทำให้มีความประยัดคุ้มค่าของเชื้อเพลิง

PARIS, Aug 31, 2010 (AFP) – European planemaker Airbus on Tuesday began building the first parts of its new A350 XWB, a wide-bodied airliner designed to compete with US rival Boeing’s much anticipated B787 Dreamliner.

A statement from the firm said workers have started assembling the jet’s giant wing sections in Airbus’ plant in Stade near Hamburg in Germany — just days after press reports suggested the project could be delayed.

“The A350 XWB sets new benchmarks for the aviation industry and passengers. Advanced materials make the new Airbus the most economical and environmentally friendly aircraft in its class,” Airbus chief executive Tom Enders said.

The company said it has 528 orders for the jet and that the final assembly of parts made in several European plants will start in 2011, with the first finished model delivered to Qatar Airways some time in 2013.

Last week, the French financial daily Les Echos, citing a market research report, reported that the A350 might be delayed until at least 2014, but the firm has insisted it is confident of remaining on schedule.

Boeing stole a march on its European rival in 2004 by announcing the B787 Dreamliner for 2008 but it is more than two years behind schedule and is not now expected to deliver the first 330-seater jet before next year.

Both the A350 and the B787 are long-haul jets made with modern composite materials such as carbon fibre glass that reduce weight and drag, leading to greater fuel economy.

The first A330 MRTT Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) for the UK Royal Air Force has completed the in-door trials, such as systems trials, required prior to First Flight and has been rolled out of its hangar at Airbus Military’s Getafe, Madrid facility to continue with the out-door trials, such as fuel trials and others.

Once all trials are successfully completed, the aircraft will be handed over to the Flight Test Team for First Flight which is due in the first part of September. The aircraft has been converted from a basic A330-200 airframe by Airbus Military. Following the flight-test programme it will be delivered late next year to the AirTanker consortium responsible for operating the aircraft on behalf of the UK Royal Air Force
